A woman tries to survive the invasion of Berlin by the Soviet troops during the last days of World War II. It sounds as though there’s a great sense of atmosphere – even claustrophobia – in the novel too.
There is a sense of claustrophobia that I associate with the ocean. A portrait of the wealthy wife of the former owner fascinates the twins and they claim to have seen the woman wondering the ship. Mind you, I think most crime fiction fans know about Arnaldur Indriðason’s works, but not Sigudardottir. It was the last thing Brynjar - and doubtless the others - wanted to hear at that moment.
